SEE WHAT MAKES PRIMA MATERIA'S WINES SO DIFFERENT

Inspired by Italy, guided by California

In a series of life-changing experiences while in Italy, my passion and imagination were captured by the Italian wines of Taurasi (made from the Aglianico grape), Barolo (Nebbiolo), and Montefalco (Sagrantino)  — wines with such earthiness, elegance, focus, and immense depth that at that very moment I knew I would spend the rest of my life striving to make wines of such beauty in California's varied soils and perfect climate.

In Italy, wines from a particular region are naturally the perfect accompaniment for the regional dishes of that area. Inspired by this time-honored approach of respecting the relationship between food and wine, each of the wines we make at Prima Materia is an authentic expression of the flavors inherent to the particular grape variety.

Each of our wines is a grape-specific celebration, a living adventure in uncovering the historical voice of the unique variety, pair naturally well with food, and are each very different. You can read more about Prima Materia's approach to winemaking and our wine styles here.
